First Impressions
As usual, YETI doesn’t miss when it comes to craftsmanship. The Trailhead chair is built with their rugged FlexGrid fabric, which feels tough and secure. The mesh design allows for breathability while still handling serious weight and the joints on the frame move smoothly for a quick, single-action setup.
Transportability
The Trailhead Camp Chair is the only model we tested that includes backpack-style straps on its carry bag, which is a welcome feature, especially given its heavier weight of 13.3lbs. The straps were comfortable, sturdy and made it easy to carry the chair hands-free down uneven, rocky trails to the beach.
That said, its weight and bulky folded size make it less portable than other options. It’s noticeably longer when packed down and, as a shorter person, I definitely felt it knocking against the backs of my legs while walking. If portability is your top priority, this probably isn’t the best fit.
Sitting
Let’s get one thing clear: this chair is built for upright sitting. It sits tall off the ground and while the back has a slight recline, it’s much more upright than your typical lounging beach chair. It doesn’t cradle you in a ‘bucket seat’ style; instead, it feels firm, supportive and comfortably angled for long-term sitting.
A standout feature is the frame’s locking system, which adds an impressive level of stability and eliminates the wobbly or springy feel that’s common in many camp chairs. It’s a great seat for sitting for long periods and we think it’s especially well-suited to people who need extra support or have mobility concerns.
The wide feet performed well on various surfaces, including sand, and while the included cup holder isn’t as elaborate as those on some other chairs, it was a nice functional touch.
Final Verdict
We’d gladly spend the day lounging in the YETI Trailhead Camp Chair. It’s especially great for larger users or anyone who values strong support and long-term comfort. While it’s not the easiest to carry and does come with a premium price tag, we believe it’s worth the investment for a tough, versatile chair built to last a lifetime.
