First Impressions

Coleman has a great reputation for making good-quality, affordable camping gear, and this chair lives up to that. The seat and armrests feel tough and well-made, the stitching is neat and the frame is strong and sturdy.

Even the carry bag is decent as it’s lighter than the chair itself but still does the job. It matches the chair's colour and has the Coleman logo printed nice and clear on the front.

Transportability

The Coleman chair is surprisingly light for something this big and it’s still really tough and durable. When packed up, it’s a bit bigger than most chairs, which makes sense since it’s padded and oversized.

The carry bag has a good shoulder strap that makes it easy to carry around. It didn’t swing all over the place like some others we tried because the strap is a bit shorter and keeps the bag close to your body.

Sitting

This is where the Coleman really stands out. True to its name, it’s bigger and wider than most chairs we tested. The seat and back have light but firm padding, making it more comfortable than many other chairs, kind of like sitting in a comfy armchair at home.

What really makes this chair special is the built-in cooler on the left armrest. It holds up to four cans, but keep in mind that putting that much weight can make the armrest dip a little. Still, it’s worth it to have cold drinks right by your side. On the other armrest, there’s a drink holder, and there’s also a small pocket on the side for storing stuff. Just be careful not to overload the pocket, or it might affect how the seat feels.

This chair is better suited for camping, tailgating, or concerts rather than the beach. Its taller height makes it easy to get in and out of, which could be great if you have back or mobility issues. If you want a chair more designed for the beach, check out the other options on our list.

One thing to keep in mind is that because we tested mostly on hot days, we noticed this chair’s heavy fabric can feel warmer than mesh-backed or beach-style chairs. So if you’ll be sitting in hot sun a lot, this might not be the coolest option.

Final Verdict

Overall, the Coleman Oversized Quad Chair with Cooler is a great all-around choice. The cooler and padding make it super relaxing, which is why it made our Top Five Beach Chairs for 2025.
