This chair just made the cut as a no-frills option that’s reasonably lightweight, reasonably solid, reasonably comfy — overall, just a pretty reasonable chair. Is it going to blow anyone away? Probably not. But if you’re simply after a chair that works at the beach, in the park, or around a campsite, this could be a solid pick.
Comparison
Open Size: Very low, compact
Packed Size: Small
Weight: Light
Capacity: Low
Pros: Strong steel and aluminium frame, breathable mesh back for airflow.
Cons: For heavier users, the seat can press into the frame under the thighs, which gets uncomfortable.
Verdict: A tough, compact chair that does the job, though there may be more affordable options that offer similar performance.

First Impressions
Cascade clearly put some thought into the design of this model and we want to give credit where it’s due. The materials feel solid and built to last, and the carry bag matches the same level of quality — which isn’t always the case. The bag features both a long shoulder strap and a shorter top handle near the drawstring, which is a thoughtful touch, even if the two handles can get a little tangled up.
We are slightly unsure about the long-term resilience of the mesh back. It’s a finer weave than most, and that could make it more vulnerable to snags or small tears over time.
Transportability
This chair folds down into a compact, lightweight bundle that’s easy to carry over your shoulder without any fuss. It takes a bit of wrangling to get it back into the supplied bag, but with a little effort, it fits, and the drawstring closure keeps everything nicely tucked in.
Thanks to its cross-frame design, setting it up is simple: just grab the top corners and pull them apart. Packing it down again is just as quick and hassle-free.
Sitting
As someone on the smaller side, I found this chair quite comfy to sit in. Its low profile lets you stretch your legs out across the sand, grass or stones easily and I suspect the mesh back helped a bit with airflow on a warm day. Still, I’m not sure I’d trade off durability for that breathability — the mesh feels a little delicate.
On the other hand, my testing partner — who’s larger and heavier — didn’t have the same experience. His weight caused the seat fabric to sag enough that the cross-bars underneath became noticeable, making it uncomfortable for longer sitting sessions.
The foam-covered armrests are functional, though basic — nice to have, but nowhere near as supportive as the armrests on more structured chairs. Also worth noting: this is a minimalist design, so you won’t find any extras like cup holders or towel clips here.
Final Verdict
The Cascade Mountain Tech Camping Chair is a straightforward, decently rugged option better suited to general use than dedicated beach lounging. Its build quality earned it a spot in our Top Ten, but to be fair, there are cheaper alternatives out there that could serve you just as well for more casual outings.
